Perform the Append
Run AppendPDF DE
When you have finished specifying all the options you want for AppendPDF DE, click Assemble to perform the append.
Note: When you click Assemble, AppendPDF DE creates a parameter file. If you were editing an existing file, it will be overwritten, and your old values lost. We recommend saving the file with a new name before running. See Working with Parameter Files for more information.
Check the log file
When AppendPDF DE runs, it automatically creates a log file of progress and errors. If there is any problem with the append operation, check here first.
To check the log file
- From the Menu bar, select File > Open Log.
> The Append log file opens. - Check for any error messages.
- Click Close to close the file window.
To clear the log file
- From the Menu bar, select File > Clear Log.
> You are prompted to confirm. - Click Yes to delete the log file.
Working with Parameter Files
AppendPDF DE uses an XML parameter file to specify how to build a new document. If you plan on creating different appends using the same parameters, you can save the file and re-use it, or use it as a template for future projects.
Creating a new parameter file
If you want to restore the default values, or start a new project:
- From the Menu bar, select File > New.
> If you have existing changes, you will be prompted to save them. - Existing parameters are cleared.
Opening an existing parameter file
To open an existing parameter file:
- From the Menu bar, select File > Open.
> If you have existing changes, you will be prompted to save them.> The Select an XML parameter file dialog box appears.
- Browse to the directory which contains the XML parameter file.
- Select the XML parameter file.
- Click Open.
> The AppendPDF DE parameters are filled in from values in the file.
Run (Assemble) the file, or edit the parameters as needed.
Saving the parameter file
If this is a new parameter file:
- From the Menu bar, select File > Save.
> The Save XML Parameter File dialog appears. - Navigate to where you would like the file saved.
- Type a file name in the File name field, or accept the default of parameters.xml.
- Click Save.
> AppendPDF DE saves the parameter file.
If this is an existing parameter file:
- From the Menu bar, select File > Save.
> AppendPDF DE saves the parameter file.
Note: This will overwrite the existing parameter file, and the old parameter file will be lost. If you want to save the old parameter file values, use Save As instead.
Saving the parameter file with a new name
To save a parameter file with a new name:
- From the Menu bar, select File > Save As.
> The Save As XML Parameter File dialog appears. - Navigate to where you would like the file saved.
- Type a file name in the File name field.
