Introduction

StampPDF DE displays an error message when it encounters a problem. All of the error messages displayed in a StampPDF DE session, along with standard progress messages, are recorded in a log file. While you may never have to do anything with the log file yourself, it can be useful to Appligent Support for problem resolution.

Displaying the Log File

If you receive an error message, you will be asked if you want to view the log file. You can also display the log file at any other time.

To display the log file

  1. On the Main tab, click the Advanced Options button.

The Advanced dialog box is displayed.

  2. Click the Show Log File button.

    The log file is displayed.

  3. When you are finished viewing the log file, click the Close button and then click the OK button.

You are returned to the Main tab.

Finding the Log File Path

If Appligent Support asks for your log file, you need to know where to find it.

To find the log file path

  1. On the Main tab, click the Advanced Options button.

The Advanced dialog box is displayed.

  2. Look in the Logfile Path field.

This is where the log file path name is displayed.

  3. After you note the log file path name, click the OK.

You are returned to the Main tab.

Changing the Log File Path

By default, the log file is named StampPDFDE_log.txt, and it is stored in the directory where StampPDF DE is installed. If you prefer to use another name or location, you can change the log file path.

To change the log file path

  1. On the Main tab, click the Advanced Options button.

The Advanced dialog box is displayed.

  2. In the Logfile Path field, enter a new log file path name.

To enter a log file path name, do one of the following:

    • Click the Browse button next to the Logfile Path field, select a file, and then click Save.
    • Drag and drop a file from your desktop or file navigator.
    • Manually enter the full path name. In Windows, separate directories with a back slash: \

    Examples: C:\Appligent\StampPDF DE\mylogfile.txt

Note: The log file must be in text format, and it must be write-enabled. StampPDF DE cannot write messages to a read-only file.

  3. After you change the log file path name, click the OK.

You are returned to the Main tab.
